Erik ten Hag has found the perfect super-sub in Alejandro Garnacho

It seemed like the Manchester derby was petering out in favor of Manchester City after substitute Jack Grealish stole in at the far post to plant the header past a helpless David de Gea.

But as has been the case under Erik ten Hag, Manchester United has tended to find unlikely answers through the impact of substitutes.

One player who has become an instant hero in the colors of United has been Alejandro Garnacho. Who can obliterate his indelible last-gasp winner against Fulham in the last sport before the World Cup?

But this was City, the prevailing Premier League champions and when the Dutch manager turned to the young Argentine, it seemed like it was more in hope than expectation.

But the master mastermind seemed to have it all featured out. There was a clear direction to Luke Shaw after the exchange to feed the ball to the striker as fast as possible.

And immediately, the United players seemed to be energized and Garnacho had a couple of runs down the left side and earned a corner in his first foray.

His second run was also majestic and he

And ultimately, the hero of United’s FA Youth Cup win last season did make a telling contribution in the end.

In the 82nd minute, he strived to lay it back to Bruno Fernandes, the scorer of the first goal, only to see it get disguised.

Any other youngster would have tried the safer choice of passing it back again and trying the route. But not Garnacho.

Chelsea’s new owners serious about midfield rebuild

Chelsea’s midfield is in anguished need of a revamp. At the moment, it is aging and lacks many elements that any midfield of a team who wants to challenge at the very top should have. Italian journalist calls Victor Osimhen “a brilliant madman”

Manchester United transport target Victor Osimhen has been reported as a “brilliant madman” by a leading Italian correspondent. As described in Sport Witness, journalist Gianni Visnadi has heaped applause for the in-form winger.
