Cameroon became the first African team to beat Brazil in a World Cup thanks to Vincent Aboubakar's great late goal, but it wasn't enough for a place in the round of 16.

FULL TIME: Cameroon 1-0 Brazil

A heroic and famous victory for Cameroon, which becomes the first African nation to defeat Brazil in the World Cup! But it won't be enough to save them, as Switzerland defeated Serbia 3-2 and secured second place behind Brazil on goal difference.

90 min +10: The look on Tite's face is a picture. A thousand-meter look, like he's trying to locate Rio, to see what people at home are saying.

90 min +9: The ball looped into the Cameroon area. Marquinhos goes up high and deftly lowers his chest for Guimaraes. He's six yards and clear... but he can only hook, the ball bounces up an awkward height! Cameroon hearts were in the mouth there good!

90 min +8: Dani Alves deep cross from the right. Marquinhos, to the left of the small area, headed in towards the goal. Martinelli, six yards out, can't keep his header down, leans back and slams it over the bar. The tension here is palpable! Cameroon is this close to becoming the first African nation to beat five-time champions Brazil in the World Cup!

90 min +6: Center of Marquinhos from the left. Guimaraes rises and finishes off with a header to the upper left corner. But there's no power behind the header and Epassy gets up to calmly tear from the sky.

90 min +4: … and now, if Serbia equalizes and a ten-man Cameroon holds on, the Africans will advance to the round of 16.

RED CARD: Aboubakar (Cameroon)

90 min +3: Aboubakar takes off his shirt and walks away in a wild celebration! The referee has no choice but to show him a second yellow, then a red. Aboubakar walks away smiling, in soft contemplation. He doesn't mind flying! You just scored one of the goals of your life! GOAL! Cameroon 1-0 Brazil (Aboubakar 90+2

Out of nowhere… and what a goal! Ngom Mbekeli strides down the right and crosses to Aboubakar, who ducks and directs a sensational header into the bottom right corner. Ederson was rooted to the ground. What a cross was that!

90 min+1: Martinelli turns on the jets and crosses low to the left. Wooh look for a corner that turns out to be a complete non-event

90 min: There will be nine added minutes. The 90s that have gone before haven't exactly flown by.

88 min: Raphinha dribbles into the field from the right. He finds Pedro, with his back to the goal at the penalty spot. Pedro turns and gets deep into the back stall.

87 min: Guimaraes, in a pocket of space inside the Cameroon box on the left, tries to free Pedro. Easy read the hazard and pick up.

85 min: … Cameroon tries to break the field, only for Guimaraes to drag Ngamaleu away. Yellow. That is Ngamaleu's last act of the night as he is replaced by Mbeki.

84 min: Raphinha drops a shoulder to pass Tolo on the right. He cuts towards Guimaraes, bombarding the near post. Guimaraes tries to force the goal, but his shot is brilliantly blocked by Wooh, the ball deflects across the face of the goal and goes out for a corner. From which

82 min: The resulting free kick is a decay of time. “I'm in Lisbon in a sports bar absolutely packed with Brazilians,” reports Tim Stoppard. “They were extremely cheery that they took Jesus away.”

81 min: Brazil clears the corner and counterattacks. Martinelli runs right into acres of space. Rafinha is clear in the center. As Martinelli prepares to make the killer pass upfield, Aboubakar executes a perfect rugby tackle. Cynical but spectacular. In the book, it goes!

80 min: Fai crosses from the right. The ball is deflected to a corner. Militao half clears. Aboubakar returns it, looking for the top right corner from the long range. The ball deflects to another corner.

79 min: Last change for Brazil. Rafinha enters for Antony.

78 min: Ntcham is in a progressive mood and makes space at 30 yards. A couple of strides and then sends a low shot to the bottom left. Ederson suffocates.

77 min: Ntcham rushes up the middle and nearly doubles his way into the Brazil box with Ngamaleu. Not quite, but a fair run nonetheless.

75 min: Antony and Guimaraes combine again on the right, but Choupo-Moting must not pass and the ball is deflected for a goal kick.

73 min: Martinelli cuts in from the left to connect Guimaraes, who takes a loose bunt before cutting a wild effort miles over the bar and also wide.

72 min: Antony, Ribeiro, and Guimaraes shoot some triangles to the right and towards the Cameroon box. But they overwork and confuse each other, and the ball flies harmlessly toward a goal kick.

70 min: The pace slows down a bit, and the game loses pace, perhaps as a result of the recent changes.

68 min: Kunde is replaced by Ntcham.

67 min: Ribeiro dribbles with purpose down the right inside channel. For a second it looks like Cameroon is light at the back, but Ebosse crosses to block Ribeiro unceremoniously with a rock-hard and perfectly timed tackle. It had to be, right inside the box.

65 min: Marquinhos and Martinelli try to combine through the inside left channel, but the movement fails. They both look hurt. Brazil is already qualified, but they want to win, you can be sure of that. And on that topic, here's Richard Hirst: “Gareth Southgate was criticized when England 'only' drew with the USA. If this game holds on as it is, no team will have won all three games and almost all the 'big' teams will have fared inferior to England. Maybe Southgate knows what he's doing later all."

64 min: Both teams make a substitution. Pedro enters for Jesus, while Mbeumo is replaced by Toko Ekambi.

63 min: Martinelli drops a shoulder to make room on the left and fires a fine mid-height cross into the mixer. Relief, ice in the veins, chests down under intense pressure, and clear hooves. That's some defense under the circumstances!

61 min: Antony has three green shirts around him, but he decides to perform his world-famous circular drag trick instead. It falls through halfway, but full marks go for its ambition and for providing high-quality light entertainment on Friday nights on ITV in prime time.

60 min: Epassy is ok to continue. That's good news for Cameroon, which in this post-Onana environment has only 19-year-old Simon Ngapandouetnbu as its backer.

58 min: Guimaraes takes the long corner. Bremer rises at the far post. Easy does just enough to deflect the ball away from danger, only to fall back onto his post. Ooyah, oof, that has to hurt. The physio is coming.

57 min: The next corner leads to Antony looking to launch a shot into the bottom left corner from the edge of D. The shot goes wide, but Epassy spins it around the post anyway. Another corner is coming!

56 min: Martinelli lights up from the left and looks for the top right corner. Easy tips. The corner is sent from the right. Militao throws a leg to the ball from the penalty spot. Easy mishandling and the ball shoots into the bottom left corner. Easy spins and get the ball out of harm's way just in time.

55 min: Brazil makes three changes. Marquinhos for the grieving Telles, as well as Bruno Guimaraes and Everton Ribeiro for Fred and Rodrygo.

53 min: An absurd ruckus in the Cameroon box as Rodrygo can't force a fumble in the middle of a melee. Easy moves on his hands and knees and requires three tries to pick up the ball in his arms. For a second, it looked as if it was going to throw him into his own net. Penny for the thoughts of one Mr. Onana.

52 min: Telles cannot continue and will be replaced by Marquinhos. Brazil has dropped to ten per minute.

51 min: So it doesn't matter what Cameroon does here. Not how things are. But there is a long way to go and Cameroon will keep looking. Aboubakar spins in the Brazil box and sends a low shot whistling past the left post. So close to a starter!

50 min: Have you ever had the feeling that you would rather be watching the other game? Switzerland has retaken the lead against Serbia. Remo Freuler with that one. This is not a good message for Cameroon.

48 min: It looks like it was just a dead leg for Telles, and though he limps off the pitch, he's quickly looking to get back on. Anguissa appears to offer a friendly apology. All good to see.

47 min: Anguissa competes for the corner at the close post. He hits Telles, accidentally, but that's a free kick and a challenge the Brazilian left-back will have felt. The coach is coming.

46 min: Mbeumo is sent running down the right, and Fai finds him with a beautiful rake pass. the cross Bremer heads back for the first corner of the second half.

Cameroon starts the second half. Without changes. “Cameroon is being very, very tough, diving into tackling and all that,” Alexandra Ashton begins. “if not they change their Brazil

alleviation tactic from 'take them down, please' to something less antagonistic, I think a red card is on the penetration. Without those tackles, however, Brazil would have had several good chances to score: a bit lost, in my opinion."

HALF TIME: Cameroon 0-0 Brazil

The whistle blows in a medium that will give relief to Cameroon and hope for survival. Had that Mbeumo effort gone in, Cameroon would have been sitting second as it stands... because Switzerland made it 2-2 in their game with Serbia at Stadium 974, Breel Embolo scoring the last goal there. Nothing apart from Brazil's qualification has been decided in Group G yet!

45 min +3: Almost two and a half games into this World Cup, Brazil finally faces a goal attempt! Ngamaleu reaches the byline from the left. Throw a cross toward Mbeumo at the far post. The memo is upside down The ball gets up and sails to the top right. Ederson arches his back and saves impressive.

45 min +2: The resulting corner kick. Antony steps back for Rodrygo, who shoots wide from the edge of the box with a first shot.

45 min +1: Martinelli cuts to the left and shoots from the edge of the D. His rising shot is tapped by Easy. Just, mind you, the goalie looks nervously behind him as the ball shoots through his hands and passes inches over the bar.

43 min: Rodrygo drops a bit deeper to dribble through the center circle. He slides to the right and then almost drops Antony up the middle, but his pass is too heavy and he gets to Easy.

41 min: Aboubakar enters the Brazil box from the right. Memo can't make it to the end, the ball hits Bremer's head lightly and Ederson claims without too much fuss.

39 min: Fai is receiving treatment, having been injured in the fruitless search for a Martinelli in flight.

37 min: Dušan Vlahović just put Serbia 2-1 up against Cameroon. A beautiful rotating and threaded diagonal shot at the bottom right. That has shaken up Group G, very well!

36 min: Aboubakar has a chance to free Mbeumo into acres down the right, but misses the pass before he's surrounded by blue shirts. Momo would have been clean.
